Violated

I feel violated.

I spent the morning driving around Edinburgh trying to find somewhere that I could get some cardboard boxes so we can start packing up the house. Supermarkets and shops seem to have stopped giving out any, so this proved more difficult than you might imagine. Catherine suggested a shop on Morningside Road that sells all sorts of packaging stuff, so I headed up there. When I got there, I went in and asked the guy behind the counter for ten medium sized boxes. The bloke replied in broken English that this would be £6.50, which I thought was quite reasonable. I went outside to pop the boxes into the car and told him I’d be back in a second to pay up. When I came back and handed over my card, the guy informed me that the transaction came to 65 quid! It had been £6.50 PER BOX! SIX POUNDS FIFTY FOR A CARDBOARD BOX! I had to pay since a traffic warden was paying close attention to my illegally parked car, and a ticket would have been the cherry on top. I am still struggling to believe that boxes cost that much.

Please don’t tell my wife!

Andy

McDonalds will give you boxes for free, as long as you don’t go at lunch or dinner time!! Ahhh – what a nightmare man!!

Tell me about it!
I’ll be going straight to McDonalds once I’ve packed these boxes up. I’ve learnt my lesson,

That’d be $130 over here…and I’d have leapt over the counter if he’d try to charge me that much and in the end more than just his English would have been broken. Would Tesco give you boxes?

I managed to resist such urges – just.
No, I tried Tesco and they didn’t have any boxes they could give me. I don’t understand why. The only explanation I can think of is that they get some sort of incentive to recycle their boxes.
Who knows?
