Tim Keller

The following is a link to a page on the Redeemer Presbyterian site, where Tim Keller is involved in a question and answer session. It’s the sort of thing you can dip in and out of, and may be of interest to Christian and non-Christian alike.

The Supremacy of Christ in a Postmodern World

16 06 2008

This is dangerous territory I realise that; recommending a book before you’ve finished it. The last chapters could be some of the most heretical nonsense ever put into print, but I’m going to take the risk.

I bought this ⇓ the other day and am really enjoying it.

The contributors read like a who’s who of America’s leading evangelical ministers/theologians….Carson, Piper, Driscoll, Keller etc.

It’s a light, cheap paperback, ideal for taking on your summer holiday - go on you know you want to. I’ll even give you the link;

Buy it here!

or even better Buy it here!!!!

What Do You Make Of This?

11 04 2008

This is very strange. This song makes me boke at the best of times, add the white kecks to the mix and I’m seriously nauseous. But then I realised that it was sang on American Idol!?! I think the words have been changed slightly, but not much. I’m really not too sure what to make of it.

See what you think….

Straight & Narrow

12 03 2008

For a number of years now, my going out in public has been dependent on GHD hair straighteners. However, I was always a bit uncomfortable with their advertising campaigns (which incidentally, they didn’t start producing until after I had bought a pair!)

ghd.jpg

Their main slogan ‘A new religion for hair‘ didn’t really bother me, it was more the fact that the sultry models ‘prayed’ for things like being able to steal someone’s boyfriend or make other girls insanely jealous as a result of their gorgeous hair. And their other slogans ‘Thy will be done‘ and ‘The gospel according to GHD‘ were certainly a bit off.

Well, I was just on the BBC website and it turns out that at least 23 other people out there also had a problem with the adverts, and actually bothered to do something about it. As a result - the ads have been banned! You can read the story here.

“The editors of the NIV pee sitting down”

18 02 2008

I was just sent the following as an email attachment. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but I settled upon the former.

I’m hoping this dude’s part of the next mission trip from the States, or coming over to do some preaching lessons at the Free Church College….

The Big Questions 2

25 01 2008

This just in! The topic for this week’s The Big Questions has now been confirmed. It’s nothing to do with joy … it’s all about greed amid fears of a recession and recent stock market turmoil.

What’s more - Alex MacDonald’s fellow panel members will be David Steel (or Lord Steel if you prefer), Mona Siddiqui (Professor of Islamic Studies and Public Understanding at Glasgow Uni) and there will be a guest appearance from John Michie (who used to be/is on Taggart?)

But that’s not all! I have saved the most exciting panel member until last. None other than yet another of my favourite TV personalities … Hardeep Singh Kohli!

Hardeep is a very funny man. I’m intrigued to see how this is going to go …

The Big Questions

23 01 2008

Set your Sky Plus box, or your video recorder now! Yet another of my favourite Free Church ministers is making a TV appearance. This time it’s Alex MacDonald and he will be appearing on The Big Questions - a new religious debate programme on BBC 1, hosted by just one of my favourite TV presenters - Nicky Campbell.

Alex will be one of the panel members, and although the topics have not yet been confirmed there’s a possibility that there will be some discussion about that article in The Monthly Record. Yes … the one about joy!

The show will be recorded and shown live at 10am on Sunday 27 January. That’s why you will need to record it - because if you’re going to church at 11am (and if not, why not?!) then you will miss the end.

Check out The Big Questions website here. This includes the facility to watch the programme for a week after it is shown.

Macho Man

Catherine’s comment to the following clip was to quote Will Ferrell in ‘Blades Of Glory’ and say “nobody knows what it means, but it’s provocative”.

I love this clip:

I Want More

18 01 2008

I watched this clip earlier today and found it both fascinating and frightening. This seems like Christ-less Christianity, where personal gain and not God’s Glory is the goal. I could be wrong, I usually am. See what you think:
