Bill and Elizabeth’s Big Day

29 08 2008

This morning a couple from our church, Bill and Elizabeth, tied the knot. They both looked great (Bill in his sharp, new, taylor-made suit!) and even the weather was perfect! Here’s a couple of photos of their big day;

Wedding Weeks Ago

16 06 2008

I was recently at the wedding of my friend Michelle, to her lucky husband Duncan. (Of course, Michelle is lucky too!) I was filming it for them and as a result of having to carry a video camera, carry case, tripod and handbag, I decided to take my old point-and-shoot digital camera as opposed to our larger digital SLR one. Big mistake! It started acting up from the first picture I took until it eventually deleted every single one of them just in time for dinner. And then it point blank refused to take anymore.

That’s why this blog post has been somewhat delayed as I have had to wait for other people to start uploading their pictures so that I could steal them! (Special thanks for the images in this post are due to the Lamonts, Laura Massie and anyone else that they might have borrowed pictures from).

Mr and Mrs Macdonald

The wedding was at Rosskeen Free Church near Invergordon and followed by a reception at the Ben Wyvis Hotel in Strathpeffer. I had stayed there a couple of times before when we used to go on school weekends away, and once upon a time a friend and I had to get one of our teachers and the hotel night manager to smash open our bedroom door after it locked itself shut … Anyway it’s been refurbished since then and I don’t think I had ever appreciated before what amazing views and gardens it had. I’m sure they made for some great wedding photos.

Now Michelle and Duncan are away on honeymoon in Italy. Or perhaps they are back by now, considering how long it has taken me to write this. I’ll leave you with one more photo …

Check out the bridesmaid dresses. I think they are one of the nicest colours I have ever seen!

More Photos

15 04 2008

Yesterday I was off work with the cold and one of the things that cheered me up greatly (aside from a chocolate muffin that Andy bought me, and about 6 episodes of 24) was getting to see some of the official shots from Jeni and Colin’s wedding. Click here if you want to see them too.

I think they are amazing and can’t wait to see the rest! You too can have wedding photos like this if you book Roddy Mackay. Do it. Now.

Mr and Mrs Armstrong

13 04 2008

I write this post armed with tissue and surrounded by scrunched up balls of tissue that I have already used, because yesterday was an emotional day. My beautiful cousin Jeni was wed in a fairytale location, we dined and danced in a luxury marquee and now she and her dashing husband are jetting off on their exotic dream honeymoon.

Well actually the tissue has more to do with the fact I am completely choked with the cold! Walking around in a bridesmaid’s dress on a cold, slightly rainy day will do that to you. But it was worth it … and for the record, the paragraph above is still true!

Arriving at Dundas Castle

The wedding took place at Dundas Castle in South Queensferrry, an (extremely) stately home which was a fantastic location. From the twisty climb to it’s historic stone chapel, the turrets with panoramic views across the Forth, a grand sweeping staircase into the wood panelled halls … everything about it was unique to any other wedding I have been to. And the guest rooms were huge! Jeni, Lee and I got ready in the room where her parents were staying for the night and ‘plush’ does not do it justice. My brother claims that the bathroom alone was bigger than his entire flat (a slight exaggeration but not too far off the mark!) and it even had 2 armchairs in it. Why? I don’t know. But it was cool!

The Bride

Jeni claims that she was nervous but there was nothing to suggest that she was. She looked calm and composed … not to mention absolutely stunning! We all had our hair done at Boosh in Edinburgh earlier in the day and when Jeni was all set and ready to head to the chapel she really did look like a bride from a magazine. The look on Colin’s face when she walked down the aisle said it all. I think he was pretty much speechless!

Work of art

Once they were married, Mr and Mrs Armstrong cut the cake which was also unique! Hours of work had gone in to creating the sugar lillies, dragon flies, ladybirds and even a sugar bumble bee. It seemed a shame to chop it up but once it had been it seemed a shame not to eat any. And it tasted just as good as it looked!

All in all it was a fantastic day. There isn’t much more I can say about it than that so I’ll leave you with a game of Spot the Difference while I go and blow my nose for the 342nd time since I started writing this post …

Here’s to You Mrs Robinson

22 09 2007

Yesterday we were at the wedding of our good friends Mikey and Charlotte. It was down in Dumfries and not wishing a repeat performance of the last wedding we attended in that area (where we arrived with about 6 minutes to spare - still needing to get changed into our wedding gear) we made sure we arrived in plenty of time. In fact, we ended up with over an hour to kill!

The ceremony and reception took place at a venue called The Crichton with the service being held in the beautiful Crichton Memorial Church. It was like a mini cathedral - an absolutely amazing building. Just the sort of place that you need a camera … except, we didn’t have one because the new camera we ordered on Tuesday did not arrive in time (despite requesting next day delivery!) We didn’t even bother taking our ‘old’ digital camera because it has stopped working properly. So, the only photo I can offer you of the day is this one which I stole from the website:

The ceremony was a Catholic one so there were a few things that we were not used to. I was especially taken aback when after Andy had finished doing a reading (which incidentally he only knew he was doing about 3 minutes before the service began!) the lady in front of me said ‘Thanks’ very loudly. It was only when others continued with ‘… be to God’ that I realised she was not thanking Andy personally.

So, almost 9 years on from the day that they first met, Mikey and Charlotte were married. It was a great day and good to catch up with friends - but quite scary to see so many with children that they didn’t have at the last wedding!

(Oh, and incase you’re wondering about the title of this post … Mikey’s surname is Robinson!)

The Big Day

25 08 2007

It was my intention to have the following photographs uploaded much earlier today so apologies to anyone who has been waiting with baited breath for a glimpse of the wedding of Mr and Mrs David MacDonald. It was a great day in more ways than one … the weather was brilliant and meant that we were able to make full use of the beautiful hotel grounds and private beach … the food was just amazing … everyone had a fantastic time … and most importantly, Dave and Michelle got married!

I’ll probably write more about it another day but getting home at 2.30am and getting up in time for a viewing first thing this morning means that my brain is not entirely capable of writing much more than this. In the meantime, enjoy the photos:
