This week STV are running a series of programmes about the 35 people they have shortlisted for the title of The Greatest Scot. I visited the website the other day to see who I could vote for, purely because the very thought of Chris Hoy or JK Rowling winning the title gives me the boak!

I’m a worried father. My son is being made to watch way too much Gilmore Girls. I’m sure that this can only lead to trouble further on down the line.

My dad and I decided to check out the Scottish Opera’s staging of L’Elisir d’Amore on Friday night. It was one of the best nights of music I’ve ever been to! It was surprisingly poorly attended though, with Eden Court only about half full.

It’s a cracking story, with my favourite part being the traveling mentalist, Dr Dulcamara. It’s on in Aberdeen this week, so make sure you head along!!

… I just didn’t spot it!

We were in Inverness for the weekend as Andy was preaching in Smithton Free Church on Sunday.

I went to Smithton. While there were not many celebrities there, I definitely made the better choice!

Something has happened to my brain in the last few weeks and I have become incapable of being able to hold on to keys.

The first instance of this phenomenon was about a fortnight ago when Colin and I went Asda. Having made our purchases we headed back to the car, I got Colin’s car seat all strapped in, got myself strapped in and went to put the keys into the ignition when I realised I didn’t actually have the keys. I checked my pockets … I checked my handbag … I checked the shopping bag … I got out the car and went to check the back seats … I checked Colin’s seat … I checked under the seats … I checked under the car … I started to think I was going crazy and checked parts of the car I hadn’t even been anywhere near like the boot and the glove box. No keys.

After an hour of searching, praying, and even going back in to Asda to see if anyone else had found them there were still no keys so I decided to phone Andy. I’m not really sure why, as he was in Edinburgh at the College and so there wasn’t really anything he would be able to do to help, but I felt I should confess to having lost our one and only car key. When he didn’t answer, I decided to phone Sarah Cumming to see if she might be able to come and help me look. I knew that as soon as I spoke to someone about what was going on I would probably start crying (although I was impressed with how I’d managed to hold it together when speaking to the staff in Asda!) and sure enough as soon as Sarah answered the phone I burst in to tears. Once I had managed to explain the situation she told me she would come and meet me ASAP and help with the search.

While I waited, Andy returned my call. I started to explain what was happening, but I was still crying so naturally Andy thought something major was wrong and that I’d locked Colin in to the car or worse. After working out that the baby was fine, and that Sarah was on her way to help there wasn’t really much else for Andy to say or do, so I said I’d let him know what happened …

Just then Sarah arrived with all the kids and she, Emily and Benjamin conducted a lengthy and thorough search of the car and the surrounding area. They were almost going to give up when Sarah managed to squeeze her hand down one of the seat belt holes (further than you would think it was possible to do so) and retrieved the car keys! Never have I been so relieved.

Since that day I have managed to lose all Andy’s keys. I’m pretty sure they are in the house somewhere, I just don’t know exactly where. And then today when Colin and I were visiting the MacMillans, I pulled the car keys out of my pocket only to see our mail box key fly out at the same time and land on the road beneath the car. I had a quick look but couldn’t see it so decided to have a proper look upon my return. Fortunately by that stage I was accompanied by Catriona Lamont who very quickly spotted the key in amongst a pile of fallen leaves in the gutter. I would NEVER have found it!

If anyone has any key keeping techniques please send them my way. In the meantime, I think Colin and I might just stay inside.

As previously mentioned, Grandma and Granda came to visit this weekend. On Saturday morning we made a trip to the church cafe in Kirkcaldy, but we were quite late in getting there and it had been a busy morning so there were not many cakes left. As a result, Colin stayed asleep.

He was much more lively when we visited the Marks & Spencer cafe in the Gyle later that afternoon with Auntie Rachel and Uncle Colin. I think he had his eye on my big slice of chocolate cake if the photo below is anything to go by!

Colin had Granny and Grandad Pearson visiting him yesterday and has Grandma and Granda Morrison visiting him tomorrow – there’s grandparents everywhere! Colin loves it as he gets loads and loads of cuddles. So the wee dude’s happy, but Catherine hasn’t been. She’s been moaning that even though we’ve taken loads of photos of Colin, there seem to be far too few of her with her son.

I took a couple tonight – the football was on and I had to keep her quiet!
Yeah, yeah, I know, I should be studying, but I’ve been trying to do an essay on Genesis 6 (sons of God/daughters of men/Nephilim etc) and lost all motivation.

Kirkcaldy has a new minister! John Johnstone accepted the call that was put to him last night. We’re delighted – we love John!!

I tried to find a decent photo of him but the only one I could find didn’t represent his ginger locks properly, so I had to slightly alter it….

On Tuesday I took Colin to his Great Aunt Liz and Uncle Stewart’s house in Balerno so that he could meet his two second cousins, Ryan (3) and Holly (7 months). Once again Colin slept through the entire occassion, but I had a nice time chatting to Liz, Stewart, and my cousin Steven and his wife Julie.

Colin has another second cousin that he still has to meet called Evie, and by April next year he will have a cousin, and another second cousin, but here’s a picture of the ‘next generation’ so far …
